Harry Potter: 10 Hardest Spells To Master

9. Apparition

Apparating is without question the quickest method of transport for witches and wizards. In the blink of an eye one can travel great distances, but still this is not the preferred method for the majority of the magical community. Though they are slower, most prefer to travel by broomstick or floo powder.

This is simply because apparition is an incredibly difficult spell to master, and the consequences of getting it wrong can be deadly. If done incorrectly, a witch or wizard can suffer from splinching, which is essentially leaving part of your body behind. This happened to Ron when escaping Grimmauld Place, and in the books, Susan Bones lost her leg.

So difficult and dangerous is apparition, that witches and wizards must first procure a license to allow them to perform the spell. When students of Hogwarts turn 17, they have the option to take an apparition course, with the view of obtaining a license at the end.

This is something that even the Hogwarts staff aren't able to teach, as the Ministry of Magic itself offers the course.
