Harry Potter: 15 Most Powerful Wizards In The Wizarding World

1. Albus Dumbledore

If you're both the only wizard feared by Voldemort and the only one capable of beating Gellert Grindelwald in an epic, world-changing duel, you deserve to be considered the most powerful ever wizard. As if there was any question of Dumbledore's power.

The most famous of Hogwarts' headmasters, Dumbledore was a living legend, complex but driven ultimately by pure love and a desire to allow light to prevail over darkness. And even putting aside his magical prowess - which was unrivalled even before he was the master of the Elder Wand - it was that commitment to the twin virtues on which JK Rowling's world is built that marked him out as the one.

He defeated Grindelwald, he inspired fear in the Dark Lord and he bragged almost casually about how easy it would be to escape Azkaban. His morals may have been occasionally murky, but he was the master of Death, having owned all three Deathly Hallows and his magical ability knew absolutely no equal in his time or any other.
