Harry Potter: Ranking Every Death Eater From Worst To Best
3. Severus Snape
Snape, though originally portrayed as one of the villains of the Harry Potter saga, turned out to be one of the most complex, and misunderstood characters in the entire story.
It is incredibly difficult to assess his value to Lord Voldemort as a Death Eater, since in reality he was a spy for Dumbledore. He actively stopped Professor Quirrell from murdering Harry Potter in the Philosopher's Stone, and watched over the boy who lived in general throughout his early years at Hogwarts.
However, on the other hand, Snape did his fair share to help the Dark Lord. He gave his fellow Death Eaters the information of when the Order would be moving Harry, resulting in the following attack, and death of Alastor Moody. He also allowed Hogwarts to become what it did in the Deathly Hallows, and of course, was the one who murdered Albus Dumbledore.
Though he removed from Voldemort's path the one wizard he was scared of facing, he did so only on the express orders of the Hogwarts Headmaster himself. When all is said and done, as Snape told Bellatrix, he had deceived a great wizard for a very long time. He simply neglected to tell her that that wizard was Lord Voldemort.
