Apparently ascending to the position of Minister For Magic in a post-Voldemort world is just as easy for idiots as it was when Cornelius Fudge SOMEHOW weasled his way to the top, if Hermione's lax commitment to security is any indication.

She might have "protected" the Time Turner in her office with riddles (presumably because she's a massive, arrogant know-it-all who doesn't believe anyone could possibly best her mentally), but it's not exactly very secure. Anyone with half a brain - like some of the countless intellects employed by her or anyone capable of casting a simple Alohamora spell on her door (ridiculous, she's the bloody Minister) - could get their hands on one of the most valuable items in the Potterverse.

Why not just cast an impenetrable series of shield charms, or use any number of the infinite magical resources to make sure something that could literally destroy time and reality is more than laughably hidden.
