Rubeus Hagrid is one of J.K. Rowling’s most popular characters. And due to the fact he accompanied Harry during his very first trip to Diagon Alley, he represents every Harry Potter fan’s first foray into the wizarding world.
Despite his large and intimidating appearance, Hagrid is surprisingly gentle and sweet. Indeed, he’s probably the least selfish character in the entire franchise. As gamekeeper and Care of Magical Creatures teacher, he is constantly looking after the various animals that inhabit the Hogwarts grounds. And though his love for monsters can sometimes backfire, his ability to look past the frightening exterior of certain creatures is an admirable trait.
Yet Hagrid can also be aggressive when facing adversity. As a half-giant, spells don’t work against him in the way they do against humans. As such, bringing him down is no easy task, even for the likes of Voldemort’s followers.
Whilst his magical skills are not particularly advanced, he more than makes up for it with his raw strength, his kindness, and his superb knowledge of magical creatures.
