Despite not making an appearance until The Order of the Phoenix, Luna Lovegood is one of J.K. Rowling’s most beloved creations.
Few characters are as distinctive as Luna. When she’s first introduced to Harry on the Hogwarts Express at the start of his fifth year, it’s immediately apparent she’s not a normal witch owing to her unconventional appearance.
As for her dialogue, Luna comes out with some truly bizarre thoughts during her time at Hogwarts. As silly as some of her beliefs undoubtedly are, her lack of concern for what others think about her is a big part of why she is so likeable.
Yet Luna is also someone whose heart is in the right place. She’s one of the few students to believe Harry’s story following Voldemort’s return, and her speech at Dobby’s graveside demonstrates her unquestionable kindness and warmth.
It’s hardly surprising, therefore, that Luna is so well-loved within the Harry Potter community. Whenever she made an appearance in either the books or the movies, her personality never failed to stand out.
