Sirius Black was only featured in three Harry Potter novels before he was tragically killed by Bellatrix Lestrange. But despite his relatively brief appearance, he was far from forgettable.
In The Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry (like the rest of the magical world) believes Sirius to be a mass murderer and a supporter of the Dark Lord. This – of course – turns out to be nonsense, and such a miscarriage of justice makes Sirius an easy character to root for.
Despite being a wanted man, Sirius does his best to fulfil his duty as Harry’s godfather by keeping in contact with him whilst he's at Hogwarts. And during one of the closing chapters of The Goblet of Fire, he even comes up to the castle to comfort his godson following Voldemort’s return.
In addition to his fatherly affection for Harry, Sirius also has a rebellious and entertaining side to his personality. Whilst he was a student, he regularly caused trouble with his three best friends – James Potter, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew. And even as an adult, he was never afraid to express himself or be confrontational.
How much can you remember about Harry’s godfather?
