Hellboy Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs

3. David Harbour's Solid Performance As Hellboy

Hellboy David Harbour
Lionsgate

Say what you want about the movie as a whole, but David Harbour was a damn solid casting choice to take over the reins from Ron Perlman.

And while he's certainly no Perlman, he absolutely brings both the physical presence and affably booming voice to the part you'd expect and hope for.

With a better script, Harbour would've truly shone in the role rather than basically ending up the best past of a terrible film.

He acquits himself admirably and tries his hardest to make the clumsy material work, such that he likely won't be blamed for its probable commercial failure.

Harbour has been chipping away at his craft for years and clearly deserves a blockbuster opportunity like this, so hopefully he'll be able to regroup and find himself another in the near-future.
