HELLRAISER Reboot Update From Patrick Lussier & Todd Farmer

Disturbing news hit last year when rumours leaked that Dimension Films' planned reboot of Clive Barker's Hellraiser was destined to be a PG-13 teen fright flick. A truly abominable idea for such an overtly sexual & violent film. But these fears went as quickly as they came, as usually happens with Hollywood's attempts to revive this franchise lately. Now Drive Angry's Patrick Lussier (director) and Todd Farmer (writer) are starting to talk about their plans for the movie, which they have been attached to for some time now after the previously hired, Martyrs director Pascal Laugier left the production in the summer of 2009. On the press merry go round for their latest film they stopped to talk to Shock Till You Drop and gave them a little update on their vision for the movie, which they are hard at work writing;
"We're keeping it within the world of the box. What the box is and what the box does,"
In case you wondering what the box is, and you're one of the 3 people who haven't seen Clive Barkers 1987 horror classic, this is it, the so-called Lament Configuration Box, which when solved can open the gateway to unspeakable pleasures/horrors.; He goes on;
"To go in and tell the story of Frank and the family wouldn't be right,"
'Frank' being the original's movies focus, an extreme pleasure seeking man who unlocks the box, goes to hell and is brought back by his brothers spilling blood on the attic floor, only to be followed by the demonic Pinhead and the Cenobytes.
"What we went in to pitch with at Dimension was to come at it from a different angle, but go into the same world and see things you haven't been able to see in the other movies. There have been so many films, how can we make this one different?"
With a franchise that has not so much been flogged to death but vaporized by huge metal fists into oblivion by each successive sequel, it's a property that's ripe for someone to come to with a fresh pair of eyes and Lussier seems very keen on the subject and their intentions seem to be to make a full blooded flick. Indeed they have had an R rating clause written into their contracts for the movie to insure it's adult nature. Just don't mess with Pinhead's look or the horror fans over at Bloody Disgusting will tear your soul apart.
