Hellraiser Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
4. The BRUTAL Gore
Though most of the graphic violence is saved until the third act, when Brucker finally lets loose with it, it sure doesn't disappoint.
Hellraiser has always been best remembered for its queasy body horror, and like the better films in the series, this new release relishes lingering on creative bodily destruction.
From people getting ripped apart by chains, to having their skin flayed, or in one memorable scene having a pin shoved into their throat - with Bruckner placing his camera inside the victim's throat - the movie won't leave fans wanting for wanton brutality.
It's certainly a shame that the film's aforementioned pacing issues make it a bit of a chore to reach the prime rib material, and though the sexuality aspect of Hellraiser may have been given the short shrift, the violence is as evocative and nauseating as ever.
