He's behind you! Poster & Trailer for Liv Tyler horror THE STRANGERS

It's Vacancy meets Ils meets Funny Games!

Looking awfully like the Scarecrow from Batman Begins and also a grown up version of the creepy kid from The Orphanage - the serial killer in the Liv Tyler/Scott Speedman horror movie The Strangers is nothing we haven't seen before. And that can be said from the looks of the rest of the film too.

Touching on some of the same territory as Vacancy last year with a lot of the movie Funny Games (just seen the remake the other day - insulting) and almost a complete rip-off from Ils - this claustrophobic horror focuses on a young couple whose stay in an isolated holiday home is unpleasant and possibly deadly when they are terrorized by three masked assailants. I'm really hating the movement of the slasher genre right now into this kind of crap. They may be effective in once again bringing back the feeling that if someone really wants to kill you then your not all that safe in your own home but apart from that, these films have little to say and just aren't really that thrilling for me...

The Strangers ("inspired by true events"! - mmm) opens in the U.S. at the end of next Month and probably in the U.K. (if it makes it here) in the late Summer/early Autumn.

It's written and directed by newcomer Bryan Bertino and I for one won't be making the trek to the cinema to see it.
