6. Shivers
In 1975 the world got a proper introduction to the sterilized, terrifying mind of David Cronenberg. Shivers subverted the image of futuristic urban living well and truly by despatching an organic enemy into the corridors to infect the residents. Beginning with a no-nonsense makeshift surgical sequence, the polished surfaces were soon running with blood and other fluids as the suited and booted transformed into the hot and horny. A squidgy parasite was the appalling source of the sudden outbreak of extreme randiness. If that sounds like the plot of a weird porno, well you couldn't be more wrong. Cronenberg ensured the events are far from titillating, and the inafmous closing scene where Paul Hampton is cornered by the throng in a swimming pool lasts long into the memory.
