The Hobbit: 10 Things You May Have Missed In The Battle Of The Five Armies

1. The Cast List Isn't Trilogy Wide

After Billy Boyd's The Last Goodbye was released online last month, you can bet the majority of audiences were looking forward to experiencing The Hobbit's closing credits (and not for any cynical "it's over" reasons). The expectation was justified; featuring beautiful pencil sketches of the key characters, it's a brilliant cap on the trilogy. And, best of all, it's near identical in style to the closing credits for The Return Of The King. Well, almost identical. There is, in fact, one key difference - it was only the cast of The Battle Of The Five Armies that got highlighted. No Andy Serkis as Gollum, no Elijah Wood as Frodo, no Barry Humphries as the Goblin King. Which is fair enough - they weren't in this movie after all - but as The Lord Of The Rings' end credits had served as a trilogy summation, giving Sean Bean his billing, despite not appearing in the final two movies, it seems a bit of a missed opportunity. The closing credits of An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation Of Smaug were, like their Rings counter-parts, rather unshowy, well aware this wasn't really the end of the over-arching story. So why didn't Battle pick up the slack? Where there any more easter eggs or references that were missed? Share them (and your thoughts on the movie, obviously) in the comments below.
