The Hobbit: 11 Amazing Things You Missed In The Desolation Of Smaug

6. In The Trailer, Not In The Movie

Scenes being in a trailer, but not making it all the way to the final film is surprisingly common, but with The Hobbit it€™s noteworthy because there€™s that inescapable feeling that whatever scene it is will make its way into the extended directors cut. The first trailer for An Unexpected Journey came before it was decided to turn two stretched movies into three, so naturally some bits of it were only finally seen in The Desolation Of Smaug. But in amongst the woefully premature tease of Gandalf€™s solo quest there were shots of Bilbo in Rivendell that we didn€™t get to see until the Extended Edition. The Desolation Of Smaug didn€™t break from tradition. The one shot of Azog (who's presence is severely toned down in the film) in the trailer didn't make it into the final feature, although it€™s questionable if this€™ll ever be in any version. Assumingly set during the barrel escape, this scene seems to come from an alternate plan for the story with Azog, instead of Bolg, chasing down the barrel riding dwarves; did the film originally not have suit-cum-CGI orc at all? There's also a few scenes that hadn't quite gone through the CGI wringer when we first saw then, but to avoid dragon my feet, I'll come to them later.
