7. Arwen
I know I'm still on my bandwagon complaining about the army of hairy little men in the first Hobbit film - I know they were plastered all over the book and they need to be there to be true to the story. I know in Tolkien's world of real war that there were few women on the front lines, but I would like to see someone besides Lady Galadriel - do love her - to hold the banner for strong, competent, brave women. Arwen knows her own heart and will do anything for Aragorn, the man she loves. We know Arwen is technically old, and her dad, Elrond, is in the film, so Arwen could certainly have had a cameo. She knows how to ride a horse, save the hero, look beautiful - melancholy and otherworldly - and her costumes were divine. I loved being envious of her beautiful dresses, cloaks, and delicate silver jewellery. And I'm sure the men in the audience wouldn't have minded lusting after Liv Tyler for a scene or two all over again.
