4. Barrel Riding
One of the best sections in the book is when the dwarves decide to escape Mirkwood by hopping inside some barrels and rafting down the river (there's a bit more to it than that, but if you've not read the book I don't want to spoil it for you). However, we've got the
dwarves in
barrels. Do I really need to add anything else to sell this? Unlike the cruel real-world dwarf-tossing, this is some fun stuff, mostly because I can't wait to see Bombur trying to squeeze into a barrel. But really, take your pick of who's going to be the funniest in that situation - no doubt James Nesbitt's Bofur is going to have a thing or two to say on the subject. And in the trailer, it looks like not only are they in barrels, but they're fighting elves at the same time. Elves that are, apparently jumping from tree to tree like Tarzan. Although this has the potential to be as bad as Shia LeBoeuf's vine-swinging action from that abomination of a film Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, it also has the potential to be one of the most original and unusual action scenes of the year.
