20 Wild Horror Movie Casting Choices We Almost Got
4. Sally Field - Alice Hardy (Friday the 13th)
One of the chief reasons that slasher classic Friday the 13th could be produced for barely $500,000 is that the cast was comprised largely of lesser-known actors who didn't command huge rates for their work.
But in the early stages of development, the producers were actually considering Sally Field for the role of Final Girl Alice Hardy.
Yet it soon dawned upon them that Field, already a firmly established actress at that point and drawing rave reviews for her performance in Norma Rae, would simply be too expensive for their coffers.
And so, the filmmakers decided instead to cast almost the entire movie with unknown actors, and then landed upon the great Adrienne King to play Alice.
As enticing as the prospect of Sally Field starring in a slasher film is, it's also fair to say that, on Field's end at least, there was almost certainly no serious consideration to take the part.
With her career being on the upswing at the time, there would've been little to gain from starring in a junky slasher movie, no matter how iconic it ultimately became.
