20 Wild Horror Movie Casting Choices We Almost Got
12. Tobey Maguire & Kirsten Dunst - Alex & Clear (Final Destination)
Here's an extremely funny casting near-miss - when the original Final Destination was being put together, writer Jeffrey Reddick lobbied hard for the lead roles of Alex Browning and Clear Rivers to be played by... Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.
But given that the film was casting in 1998, before Maguire and Dunst had blown up in a major way, Reddick's suggestions didn't hold much water with New Line Cinema, who were lukewarm on these prospects.
And so, Alex and Clear were ultimately played by Devon Sawa and Ali Larter, with Larter also returning for Final Destination 2.
The irony of all this, of course, is that Maguire and Dunst went on to star in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy just a few years later.
But had the pair already appeared together in Final Destination, it's entirely possible that Raimi would've chosen a different actress to portray either Peter Parker or Mary Jane Watson.
Yet Sawa and Larter gave strong performances in Final Destination, so there's nothing to sniff at here.
