20 Horror Sequels That Took FOREVER To Get Made

1. Critters Attack!

Critters Attack
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment

The original Critters was released in 1986 and, despite being dismissed by many as a lazy Gremlins cash-in - no matter that it was actually written first - it turned a solid profit at the box office.

Sequel Critters 2: The Main Course landed just two years later but failed to replicate this success, ensuring that 1991's Critters 3 and 1992's Critters 4 both went straight to video, where they were panned by both critics and the series' dubious fanbase.

That seemed to be the end of Critters, then - an IP that just didn't have the juice for a decades-spanning franchise, but in 2019 it made quite the unexpected comeback.

For one, a poorly received TV series spin-off, Critters: A New Binge, was released on Shudder, and soon followed by reboot film Critters Attack!, which managed to secure a role for original lead Dee Wallace.

This relaunch failed to make much of a dent at all, though, so it'd be surprising if we saw another Critters anytime soon.
