20 Horror Sequels That Took FOREVER To Get Made

Danny Boyle's genre redefining "zombie" film 28 Days Later was followed by a more-or-less standalone sequel, 28 Weeks Later, in 2007, which ended by teasing a threequel in which the Rage virus had spread across mainland Europe.

It was assumed, then, that 28 Months Later would arrive within a matter of years at most, but as the years dragged on, Boyle and writer Alex Garland struggled to both crack the script and find room in their schedules to make it happen.

Development of a third film took long enough that 28 Months Later didn't even make sense as a title anymore, and so when the film finally released last year - 18 years after the previous one - it was called 28 Years Later.

Though not without its polarising elements, the threequel was a solid commercial success, surely aided by the enduring esteem of the original film and Cillian Murphy's surging popularity since it came out - even though, of course, Murphy wasn't in this one.

But follow-up 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple - which Murphy was in - unfortunately flopped at the box office, likely due to the previous film's polarising ending, which has in turn left a third 28 Years Later hanging in the balance.
