20 Horror Movie Happy Endings Nobody Saw Coming
17. Godzilla Minus One
Now in fairness, Godzilla Minus One features its fair share of death and destruction at the hands of everyone's favourite kaiju, but the third act is actually shockingly upbeat for the most part.
For one, Godzilla is actually defeated at the end of the movie - though, this being Godzilla and all, he'll be back - and without any of the main characters dying.
Above all else, our tortured protagonist Shikishima (Ryunosuke Kamiki) helps take down Godzilla without sacrificing his own life, and appears to have turned a major corner in dealing with his pathological survivor's guilt during World War II.
On top of that, though his love interest Noriko (Minami Hamabe) was believed to have been killed by Godzilla earlier in the film, at the very end she's revealed to have miraculously survived. Fancy that.
Granted, Noriko's highly improbable survival feels perhaps one step too close to a Disney Ending for some tastes, but that only further cements how unexpectedly jubilant Godzilla Minus One's finale actually was.
