4. Defeating Thanos

Thanos is the biggest threat the MCU has ever faced, and likely will be for some time. Even without the Infinity Stones the Mad Titan is a dangerous prospect; with the completed Gauntlet, he's damn near unstoppable.

Thor, admittedly, came close, with his own hubris preventing him from landing a fatal blow. But with many of the heroes gone temporarily, the Avengers need some help.

Enter Captain Marvel.

Not only is the character more powerful than any of the other heroes, but there's also precedent for her fighting and beating the biggest and baddest the galaxy has to offer. There's little point hyping up her arrival as such a Hail Mary if she's not going to help save the day, and her presence is what will help turn the tide and defeat the MCU's most difficult bad guy.

In other words, Thanos should be pretty afraid.
