How Marvel Made Avengers: Infinity War The PERFECT Comic Book Movie
4. The Path To Thanos
One of the biggest questions coming from the original release of The Avengers regarded the menacing purple man in the mid-credits sequence. Only the most avid comic book devotees recognized the face and connected the dots between him and the meaning of "to court Death."
In the comics, Thanos' quest for global destruction stemmed from his desire to impress the personification of Death, physically manifested as a woman. Initially, Thanos seeks to woo Death by leading a nuclear rampage over his home planet, Titan, and destroying millions of his people.
After that proves unsuccessful, Thanos collects all of the Infinity Gems to create the Infinity Gauntlet. Once he has collected all of the Gems, Thanos activates the Gauntlet by snapping his fingers, wiping out half of all life in the galaxy.
His smile upon hearing "to court Death" led to fan speculation that the relationship between Thanos and Death would be adapted for the screen. Fans assumed this meant that Thanos would be the big bad in the second Avengers.
However, that Thanos wasn't heard from again until the 2014 release of Guardians of the Galaxy and the announcement that the second Avengers film would focus on Ultron as a villain sparked confusion; when is Marvel planning on actually using Thanos? What exactly is their plan with him?
