How Venom Just Broke Box Office Records

2. It's Genuinely A Lot Of Fun

Putting aside the fact that there are some SERIOUS issues with Venom - not least in the writing, the pacing and the supporting characters - it is really easy to recommend it based on Tom Hardy's performances alone. As Eddie Brock unravels more and more, Hardy's performance as him becomes more rewarding and closer to Deadpool territory.

And as Venom - the snarkiest Spider-Man movie character ever and a contender for Deadpool's crown of Most Outrageous Anti-Hero Banter - he's incredible, to the point that you wish the whole thing had just been a two-man/one-man show focusing on their dynamic.

It's hard to say much positive about the rest of the film, but when he's on screen (and even more so when he's in conversation with himself), there's enough of a fun factor to sell the movie. It will be those moments that fans will talk about and they will talk about them LOUDLY, which should be enough to make the first weekend's box office trend continue healthily.

In this case, those fan voices might be echoed a lot louder than the critics, and there's a reason for that too...
