Hunter Killer Review: 3 Ups & 5 Downs

1. It's Insanely Generic

Hunter Killer
Summit Entertainment

Hunter Killer is exactly the sort of film you'd expect to be created by a Hollywood computer algorithm if you asked it to magic a blockbuster up out of thin air.

It's got a solid cast, a decently timely premise and a stonking budget, and yet, the end result feels so utterly familiar and workmanlike.

There's zero inspiration to the way the movie is put together, feeling more like a film assembled by a team of studio executives than a filmmaker with their own singular vision.

From the cliched character development to the rote dialogue and mediocre action, it's all very much "been there, done that", to the extent that it could very nearly pass muster as a parody of these kinds of movies.

So, Hunter Killer is not a good film, then. But it isn't totally worthless, it has to be said, and if you go in with a knowing mindset, there are some sure chuckles to be had...
