3. A Wonderous Disturbance
Here's a funny story: thanks to producer Michael Tadross and Will Smith's charms of persuasion, they were granted access to special filming privileges in areas around New York that were closed off and made to look "deserted" just for them. It may not sound like much, but in a city as densely populated as New York, nailing 28 Days Later like shots isn't as easy as Danny Boyle's tactic of having his daughter and her cute friends politely hold traffic up for a couple hours. So, during the filming of the climactic scene where Will Smith blows up his defensive perimeter charges, the gigantic explosion (which left many a car like the one you see in this set photo) was loud enough that it was considered a disturbance to voice over work being recorded for Nick Jr's show "The Wonder Pets". Their production studios were located only a block from one of the shooting locations, which resulted in an interruption in their production schedule.
