1. Derek Charles - Obsessed
Obsessed is Fatal Attraction's younger sibling. The posh one who went to a fee paying private school and as a consequence has ideas above its station. Beyoncé Knowles, or Mrs. Z, is one of the producers of this movie and it's as anodyne and insipid as one of her albums. Here she plays Sharon Charles, who is married to Derek played by Big Driis. They are an affluent married couple in Los Angeles who have it all. Enter Ali Larter as the femme fatale Lisa, who, out of nowhere starts getting all up in Derek's bidness: trying to trap him under the mistletoe; and pressing up against him in a gents' toilet cubicle at the office Christmas party. The highlight of the movie is the hilarious catfight at the end between Sharon and Lisa which recalls the finest confrontations on Dynasty between Joan Collins and Linda Evans in the mid-eighties. Quote of the movie: "I'm gon' wipe the floor wit yo little skinny ass!" The reason why Fatal Attraction and Play Misty For Me are so good is the callous predatory nature displayed by the selfish male protagonist as depicted by Michael Douglas and Clint Eastwood respectively. Here this part of Derek's personality has been removed completely leaving him very bland and very uninteresting. Elba struggles so obviously with having to play a relentlessly Omega Male. I suppose he should take it as a confirmation of his virility that he fails so abysmally.
