Idris Elba: 8 Villains He Could Play In Star Trek 3

8. Kor

If the plan, as it was for Into Darkness, is to plumb the source material to see what can be most effectively retrofitted for the modern screen, then Kor is probably the most suitable character. Kor wasn't a huge feature of the original series, but he did introduce audiences en masse to the violence and the barbarism of the Klingon Empire. In fact, so popular was he with the show's fans that he pops us again in Deep Space 9, and was considered by Leonard Nimoy to be the character that cemented how Klingon roles were played in the shows. Rising through the ranks of the military, Kor became one of the most fearsome and respected warriors in the entire Empire, and his introduction in the series saw him billed as Kirk's ruthless alien equivalent. Whilst his contribution to the original series was restricted to one episode, his frequent reappearances in fan fiction and official novels has cemented him in Trek folklore, and it's a role that Idris Elba would bring a huge presence and gravitas to. Cruel and snarling but equally cunning, think of Elba's chest-beating performance as Stacker Pentecost in Pacific Rim and stick a Bat'leth in his hands. If the story is going to centre around hostilities with the Klingons, then Kor is perfectly placed in the timeline to be the tip of the spear.
