"In the end... there can only be one"... well actually not in Hollywood.
Highlander redo from the writers of Iron Man.
Jesus Christ, has Hollywood hit a stumbling block or what? It's another fucking remake. And I'm not one to go on about remakes as much as most people because they have just become so damn frequent that I'm used to them and kinda shrug at them most of the time but in the last month or so we have had to discuss soooooo many of them, it's getting harder and harder to just ignore what is going down in Hollywood. You can't convince me that there aren't enough truly original or even half-original scripts and ideas out there that are commercially viable which are being rejected each and everyday. Just how is the current movement in film going to be looked upon in ten years time? Badly, is what I say...
So today's remake story will be Highlander, the 1986 cult classic sci-fi movie that starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. The new redo is at Summit Entertainment and it has Iron Man scribes Art Marcum & Matt Holloway on board to adapt. The original "Highlander" starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown as immortal beings battling among humans, hunting down one another and collecting more power. Lambert played Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod, Connery an Egyptian and Clancy a barbarian known as the Kurgan. "There can be only one" was a line repeated throughout the film. The movie spawned four sequels and three television series.Casting wise... it has to be Thomas Jane for a redo? The original Highlander was so off the wall, so very un-mainstream Hollywood product that I can't see it ever working in today's environment. How did it come to this? I thought there was some shit in the 90's, too much cliched drivel and the "same old, same old" kept coming out year in and year out... but we have never hit the remake mania as much as right now at this very point in time. It is absolutely depressing and I see no way out of it anytime soon. source- the hollywood reporter
