Since the overwhelming sucess of
Capote earlier this year,
Infamous has been referred to as the
other Truman Capote movie but looking at some of the critics reviews, it should be worthy enough to stand on it's own...
"Rarely do battling productions - these two were shot mere months apart -- result in equally valid films, but that's the case here". - Ty Burr - Boston Globe"Infamous is infinitely fascinating, cinematically breathtaking and largely impeccable". - Rex Reed - New York Observer"Far from vanishing in its predecessor's wake, Infamous demonstrates how a potent story can inspire distinctly different interpretations". - Colin Covert - Minneapolis Star Tribune"Too broad to be a truly great film, but it does cheerily give lie to the assumption that the limits of Capote meant there was no reason to rehash this same story". - Phoebe Flowers - South Florida Sun Sentinel"Infamous is a well-made movie about a fascinating character, and if it weren't essentially a repeat of last year's Capote it would likely be one of the hot flicks in filmdom right now". - Tom Long - Detroit News The movie currently scores a 67% fresh from 90 reviews on
rotten tomatoes. It's somewhat of a shame that the movie was released so close to Capote, it always had a huge uphill task because of it. It will be interesting to see how
Toby Jones performance matches up to
Phillip Seymour Hoffman's Oscar winning turn. Hoffman was the big reason for Capote's success, it's difficult to imagine anyone else bettering his performance. source -
