International trailer for THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON & Variety reviews

Variety have posted their reviews for David Fincher'sTHE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON and both their top dogs Todd McCarthy and Anne Thompson had extremely similar reactions to the movie. In summation, they both found the movie to have an odd "cold" aspect to it (which ZODIAC also carried I believe but it is the Fincher style we have become use to is it not?) with a wonderfully satisfying love story and poignancy at it's heart. Though both claim the movie needs some luck if it's going to be a success for Paramount. You can see the critics reviews after the new international trailer which debuted over the weekend and has me totally excited for this movie...

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" represents a richly satisfying serving of deep-dish Hollywood storytelling. An example of the most advanced technology placed entirely at the service of story and character, this significant change-of-pace from director David Fincher poses some daunting marketing challenges, even with Brad Pitt atop the cast. Strong critical support will be needed to swell interest in this absorbing, even moving, but emotionally cool film, which is simultaneously accessible and distinctive enough to catch on with a large public if luck and the zeitgeist are with it".
Anne Thompson...
David Fincher and screenwriter Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) have delivered an historic achievement, a masterful piece of cinema, and a moving treatise on death, loss, loneliness and love. As the movie proceeds, and Brad Pitt as Button ages backwards, we know where he is headed: it's where we are all going. But he feels he has to go there by himself, without his loved ones. And nobody wants to die alone. Still, the movie is sadly beautiful, of a piece, as impeccably wrought as its ornate clock that runs counterclockwise. Do Paramount and Warner Bros. have a prayer of making their money back? This movie needs all the help it can get, from anyone who loves movies and wants the studios to take more risky bets like this one.
