Is Ben Affleck In The Batman? Matt Reeves Still Won't Say

The year is 2198. Earth is destroyed. Affleck's Batman is still in doubt.

Ben Affleck's game of hokey-kokey with The Batman continues, and the actor is currently in the shaking it all about stage, as Matt Reeves refuses to confirm whether or not he's in the movie.

During the Television Critics Association tour, where Reeves is promoting Fox TV show The Passage (on which he serves as an executive producer), the director said that he's still talking to Affleck, but otherwise was playing coy about his involvement, saying (via /Film):

"There are ways in which all of this connects to DC, to the DC universe as well. We’re one piece of many pieces so I don’t want to comment on that except to say that I’m focused very specifically on this aspect of the DC world.”

That's about as vague as it gets, and is just the latest in a string of rumours and non-committals regarding Affleck's role in the film, which increasingly looks in doubt, with Reeves more likely to bring his own man in. His comments here, however, do leave the door open for more Affleck adventures alongside what Reeves is doing with the character.

Reeves also spoke about the changes to the DC universe since he came onboard, adding that things haven't really been altered too much from his point-of-view:

"From the beginning, what I had always spoken about with Warner Brothers and what I was excited about was being in the Batuniverse and really doing something within that sphere. That was always what it was going to be so in that way it hasn’t changed a lot since I first met with them. It’s very much the same thrust if that makes sense. A lot of things have happened since then but the movie, and why I’m excited about it, is it continues to be the same inspirations and excitement of what we talked about in the beginning.”

Or in other words, Reeves is doing his own thing, and given how good a director he is, that's good news.
