Isle Of Dogs Review: 7 Ups & 2 Downs
4. Wes Anderson's Outstanding Direction
On top of the beautiful animation and immensely witty script, Wes Anderson's direction continues to be stunningly meticulous. Every single shot of the film is composited and framed with an insane level of care, employing symmetrical images, dynamic zooms and smooth pans to borderline-entrancing effect.
Anderson's style is so well-honed at this point that it'd be easy for it to feel stale or over-familiar, but the exuberance of the premise and the sheer energy with which it's executed ensure that's never the case.
It's not quite the director's strongest work behind the camera - that'd be The Grand Budapest Hotel - but it's most certainly up there with his very best.
