It was 'Victory in Europe Day' in Trafalgar Square!

Trafalgar Square was transported back to May 8th 1945 this week as dozens of extra's took part in filming a 'Victory in Europe' sequence for Captain America: The First Avenger. i.e. the day when the WWII allies accepted the unconditional surrender of Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany, bringing an end to The Third Reich and effectively bringing the bloody war to a close. Obviously they didn't have the budget for the thousands that were actually there, or maybe they will CGI them in... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XinkrjbebYY I'm not entirely sure but by the emptiness of the streets, and certainly when thinking about the logistics of shooting this sequence -it was probably filmed at the break of sunlight of Monday morning. source - comic book movie
