20 Recent Movies With INSANE Twists
The most jaw-dropping WTF twists from recent movies.
Who among us doesn't love a movie with a totally wild plot twist? Sometimes that's all a film needs to be elevated from good to great, or even great to masterpiece.
And while there's no denying that some bonkers, off-the-wall twists feel like they're deployed for mere shock value, in the very least they're memorable and got folk talking, right?
Either way that's certainly the case with these 20 films, each of which dropped one of the most fiercely unexpected, totally WTF twists in recent cinematic memory.
Whether these twists elevated what came before or simply veered off in an altogether nuttier direction, they certainly weren't boring.
These twists flipped the script and changed everything we thought we knew, they did the exact opposite of what we expected, and they dared to divide audiences by doing something incredibly bold.
These reveals by their nature won't work for everyone, and were certainly the biggest talking point coming away from each film, but if you were on their unhinged wavelength, they likely made you want to instant re-watch with this new information in mind...
20. Nina Is A Victim, Not A Villain - The Housemaid
In The Housemaid, we're initially led to believe that Nina Winchester (Amanda Seyfried) is a mentally unstable woman who lashes out at both her husband Andrew (Brandon Sklenar) and housemaid Millie (Sydney Sweeney).
But the big, mid-film twist is that Nina's demeanour was actually an act, and in reality she's a victim herself.
As it turns out, Andrew is a controlling, abusive husband, and Nina intentionally hired Millie, knowing that Andrew would end up having an affair with her, allowing her to escape.
Furthermore, Nina also knew that Millie had spent a decade in prison for killing a rapist and therefore stood a decent chance of defending herself against Andrew.
Ultimately Nina and Millie team up to kill Andrew, and the film ends with Nina giving Millie a large payoff to start a new life, while it's implied that Millie will use her special set of skills to help other abused women escape their controlling husbands.
Though The Housemaid's plot doesn't stand up to much scrutiny, if embraced as the shamelessly pulpy airport novel trash it undeniably is, it's actually pretty fun.
