Jonathan Nolan, co-screenwriter of Memento, The Prestige, The Dark Knight (and it's sequel)
has finally got a greenlight on his script for a
Titanic-like historical tragedy and love story revolving around the Great Chicago Fire in 1871 that Warner Bros. have owned for two years. Titled
Hell and Gone (awesome!) the period 'revenge' film is being fast tracked with
J Blakeson - writer/director of the rather excellent thriller
The Disappearance of Alice Creed - who is in talks to direct. It's an interesting project, not least because modern day Chicago has been the setting for the Batman movies that J Nolan has been writing for his brother Chris. J Nolan grew up in Chicago, so it's no surprise the Windy City is getting so much attention in his films and based on the title and premise alone, how can we not think of Steve McQueen in the 70's! J Nolan turned in the final draft for
The Dark Knight Rises back in September and is currently helping lead writer
David Goyer on his
Superman: The Man of Steel screenplay. Presumably, he is also on the look out for his next project, and I have heard whispers that this might involve him making his directorial debut helming his awesome sounding original sci-fi project
Interstellar that Steven Spielberg was once keen on but doesn't look like he will ever get around to making.
