Jack Black: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 That Sucked

2. Lemuel Gulliver - Gulliver's Travels (2010)

Jonathan Swift is probably still spinning in his grave from this particular atrocity. Quite why anyone thought that remaking the classic satirical original but reinventing the intrepid traveller as a bumbling oaf on an unduly earned travel journalism gig and adding in toilet humour is on a par with remaking Shakespeare with Michael Bay. Ignoring seemingly all of the red flags, Black signed on as Lemuel Gulliver and barely turned up for his performance. It's dross like this that opens him to accusations of laziness and bad decisions, and as you watch him mug excruciatingly through a script that seems far from a final product, it's hard to argue. Fatally, by adding in some sub-plots that aren't at all interesting, but investing them with more attention than Gulliver himself, the film-makers actually end up robbing Black of top billing from his own film for a good slice of it.
