Jack Nicholson: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

At one point in time, the teaming of Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler probably seemed like a relative stroke of genius (ahem - that was the early 2000s for you); unfortunately the movie that attempted to cash in on this idea wasn't very good at all, and Nicholson settles for playing himself in a movie that simply requires him to make use of his trademark shark's grin from beginning to end.

Many critics stated they enjoyed how very Jack Nicholson Jack Nicholson was in this joyless comedy, but the sense of performance deja vu on show here is unappealing. In other words: here's one movie where Jack being Jack doesn't really save the picture... almost to the point where everything that is usually so appealing about him (the shark's grin included) feels a little stale.

It does not help an inch that Anger Management appears to have been written in about three hours on the back of a placemat, or that Adam Sandler is near unbearable. The plot is a little bizarre, though it's a shame that the premise - which has Sandler and Nicholson cast as patient and therapist, respectively - couldn't have produced better results.
