Jackie Earl Haley Will Venture To The Dark Tower
Filming began this week on the epic Stephen King adaptation.
You can add Jackie Earle Haley to the list of impressive names journeying to Sony's ambitious, long-awaiting adaptation of The Dark Tower.
Deadline broke the news earlier that he'll be portraying Richard Patrick Sayre, a vampire leader who looks human from afar but up close, is actually an artificial humanoid. Interestingly, the character doesn't actually appear until the sixth book in the series which could only mean one of two things;
1) The EIGHT novels that make up The Dark Tower series could be seriously, worryingly condensed for the movies.
2) With the benefit of having the whole saga in front of them, the filmmakers are looking to add big foreshadowing to future events or are seriously shaking things up from the source material.
Either way, it's a juicy role for Haley who has made a career out of portraying memorable screen eccentrics and oddballs such as his incredible performance as a creepy sex offender in Little Children, but also his more recent mainstream portayals of Freddy Krueger and Rorschach.
Still feeling like an impossible dream to Stephen King fans everywhere, The Dark Tower actually began filming this week with the sublime castings for its two main roles; Idris Elba as the gunslinger, Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as Randall Flag, the villainous Man in Black.
Danish helmer Nikolej Arcel is behind the camera for the first movie, due February 2017 which is expected to be followed up by a mixture of movies and tv series' to tell the epic, sprawling fantasy that make up the eight Dark Tower books Stephen King penned.
