We already know that
Peter Jackson is producing but not directing a remake of the 1955 classic war picture
The Dam Busters. The directing gig has instead gone to
Christian Rivers, a guy who worked on the visual effects of Jackson's
Lord of the Rings trilogy and
King Kong. Before today we didn't know much else about the flick, apart from the fact that it's now called
Dambusters. Thanks to
UK Teletext found through
Filmstalker, we now know who is writing the movie....
Stephen Fry. This is what Fry said of the film...
"I'm sure you'll all remember the famous 1954 film with Richard Todd and Michael Redgrave. Universal are doing it again through Peter Jackson.......I'm writing a script for Peter in New Zealand, and for David Frost who's an executive producer. I loved the original, so this is great for me." That's a rather interesting choice. His movie writing credits are few and far between, though he did scribe
Bright Young Things which won him some great critical acclaim. There's no doubt that Fry is an extremely intelligent man but this is without question his biggest project to date. Will he be able to handle the pressure of writing such a huge movie? One thing that bodes well for the flick is with Fry on board it should stick pretty close to the original, and should sustain the "British ness" of the 50's movie, which is always a good thing. source -
