8. Michael Caine
My name is Michael Cai..sorry no..its Bond, James Bond Given how susceptible Caines career has been to one-liner mimicry and good-natured Cockney impersonation, and given Bonds eternal quote-worthiness, Caine and Bond, James and Michael, may have been a perfect match. Caine even looks a little like Roger Moore; tall, blond, handsome, though hed need to work on his Ps and Qs in front of his Ms Caine, too, has a record of playing commercially successful spies. Harry Palmer was a hugely successful character in the spy trilogy which began with The Ipcress File. Harry Saltzman also produced them, (he also produced the Bond films in the 60s and 70s). Palmer was a grittier version of the Bond glamour and Caine comes across as a few SW postcodes away from MI5. Still, Caine was under consideration for some time, even reportedly being offered the role at one point. Alas, George Lazenby got the job for On Her Majestys Secret Service. The postulations of what a Cockney Bond who have been like are the stuff of many pints and packets of crisps. Would he have been convincing or comical? Would the posh accent have felt forced or would the ladies man appeal won through in the end? Who are you again? Bond, James Bond.and not many people know that!
