3. Sean Bean As Alec Trevelyan - GoldenEye (1995)
The greatest Betrayal in the Bond films. No question. 006's Betrayal came as a slap in the face. You want a good villain when you get a new Bond, but we didn't see this one coming. The first time you get to see fellow 00 agent in action with Bond, and it turns out it was all a setup for an epic betrayal. This also gave 007 an adversary who was an equal. They went through the same training with the same trainers at the same time. Suddenly Bond wasn't fighting a mad scientist where he had the upper hand in combat. He wasn't fighting a KGB counterpart. Skillful, but not on the same level as Bond. Alec Trevelyan was an equal in every way but one. He had lost his way. James found himself looking at what could become of him he stepped off the path. Fighting 006 was actually fighting himself. This made Trevelyan a villain unlike any other in the franchise.
