10. Goldfinger
Oh no! Surely theres some mistake! The quintessential, most iconic Bond film, only scraping into the top 10? Sacrilege! Well, hang on there, fella Keep in mind the type of Bond I like, and alos consider this- many people say it takes a Bond actor three films to really settle into the role. Well, I concur- I reckon Connery and Brosnan actually gave their best performances in their debuts, and never stayed at that standard from each ensuring film (Moore isnt included because one of his later films jut pips his debut= the same with Craig and Dalton) Auric Goldfinger is too smarmy and greedy, without any real menace like Blofeld or Dr. No, or any charm like Emilio Largo or Dr. Kananga. Oddjob is rather dull- Jaws and Red Grant were more interesting and much more physical threat, and I actually never like that stupid hat of his Pussy Galore steals the show, who doesnt love the Ejector Seat, I love Bonds escape from prison, I adore the opening and the laser, and the fort knox scenes are marvellous. Oh, who can forget dear old Sheena Eastons demise? As you can see, theres a lot I love about the film- a lot a lot- and thats why it makes the top 10, because its not just a good bond film, its a great film to boot. But its not what I truly love in a bond film. Connery owns at the start, and he certainly looks the part in his wonderful grey suit (I have a similar one) and the Aston Martin DB5 (Still my dream car), but if only he stuck to his portrayal in Dr. No, this would probably be in the top 5. But its not.
