James Bond: Ranking The Theme Songs From Worst To Best

14. Diamonds Are Forever - Shirley Bassey

Diamonds Are ForeverDescription: Dame Shirley graces us with her presence once more, although in a more empowered capacity than when we last saw her. Diamonds Are Forever is a rare find: a song whose narrator knows the score when it comes to Bond, and won't let herself get burned again. Instead she turns to the rock that stands to be a girl's best friend, a rock that she has a specific passion for. While it isn't a track you'll find yourself repeating over and over again, you might find yourself singing along with this one once or twice. Choice Lyrics: "I don't need love, for what good would love do me?/Diamonds never lie to me, for when love's gone, they luster on." Clearly our protagonist knows to put her faith in commodities markets and precious natural resources, as opposed to the fleeting fancy of love. This is a woman who expects, nay demands, a "reasonable rate of return." She's loved, and it doesn't work the way she wants it to; so she turns to diamonds for both their allure and power: two things she seems to be in abundant possession of.
