James Cameron "Shocked" At Audiences Unaware Titanic Was Real Event

Also reveals that he has completed a "vast amount" of writing on the Avatar sequels and has spoke to Arnie about the proposed Terminator 5 & 6.

Almost as bad as when we heard audiences at Inglourious Basterds screenings a few years back questioning their companions with wide eyed emptiness; "Was that how we really took down Hitler?", a bunch of uneducated people recently took to Twitter unaware that James Cameron's classic film Titanic (currently on a very profitable re-release) was based on a real event. "It's shocking to me that someone could actually tweet -- because it requires some neuro-motor capability -- and not know that the Titanic was a real event." James Cameron told MTV in an interview. "It's a sad comment on our society." With all the 100th anniversary memorabilia, documentaries on tv, commemorative magazines on news stands right now, one wonders how the fact the Titanic was a real, doomed ship could possibly pass people by right now, even if their education or desire to learn history was small. Meanwhile, Cameron revealed that he is spending his time writing the Avatar sequels and you can expect another epic to look forward to as he has completed a "vast amount" of writing. He also revealed that he had a "quiet" talk with Arnold Schwarzenegger and hinted that he was trying to suggest to his former star that he should know exactly what he is doing before he reprises his signature character for the proposed new Terminator movies. "I was trying to be as encouraging as possible," before saying he should only be interested if the films focused on The Terminator character. And finally, Cameron refused to confirm the long standing rumours that Matthew McConaughey and Gwyneth Paltrow were the original first choices to play Jack and Rose in Titanic; "I will not confirm or deny... I just don't think that's cool to talk about actors that either chose not to do it or were unavailable or stupidly decided there wasn't enough meat on the bones of the characters or whatever it was." Mmm, ok fair enough. But Jim, quit while you're ahead because if you're being facetious, it's pretty hard to tell. "They should have called, whimpering, back and said, 'I will never second-guess you again as long as I live,' " he said, perhaps being more of a stone-faced wisenheimer than we would ever have guessed.
