James Cameron's Avatar moves forward
On the same day that M.Night Shyamalan annonces he is to make a movie titled Avatar, James Cameron's long awaited return to feature film-making is green lit.... also titled Avatar. We have followed the developments of this project for quite some time here at OWF, and now finally everything seems to be official, confirmed and ready to be made! Shooting will begin in four months time, with a summer 2009 release date confirmed. Cameron has been given a $200 million budget for his first full-length movie since his outrageously popular Titanic, and it's also been confirmed that Weta will be involved with the film, but we knew that already. What is new, is that Cameron has cast a leading man and a leading lady. Those roles will be fulfilled by Sam Worthington (Somersault) and super fit Zoe Saldana (cameo in the first Pirates movie). According to reports, we at least won't get this Avatar mixed up with Shymalan's as a producer for Fox Studio who are financing Cameron's movie has said.... "We own the movie title 'Avatar.' There won't be another film called 'Avatar' coming from anyplace." Cameron has spoken with AICN in great detail about the film, which you can find by clicking here, but below is a couple of interesting quotes. First, on the casting of Sam Worthington... "Well, we found Sam about six months ago now. I was familiar with him from before, he came in and read for me and I just really liked him. He has a quality". "You know how Russell Crowe has this kinda innate strength about him and how in GLADIATOR men would follow him into hell. Well Jake (Sully the character) needs to have that and for a young guy. And most of these young guys, theyre either physical, meaning that theyre like buff handsome guys who are pretty good actors; or they have a kind of vulnerability that they can reach, but very few of them know how to stand up and be a man......Hes just a really good actor". Any big casting announcements on the horizon.... "...yes, I think there will be some significant casting announcements coming up. The studio just wanted to drive a stake in the ground and say Were doing this, Watch out Summer 2009, dont plan your big summer movie on Memorial day Mr Spielberg or Disney or whatever". There is LOTS, LOTS, LOTS more over at AICN, so I won't make this article any longer than it has to be. Man, I'm excited. Cameron finally seems ready to blow our fucking minds again. 2009 isn't as long a way as you might think either, this time in 2 years we will be as primed for this as you unfortunate poor souls are for Bay'sTransformers! source - new york times, aintitcoolnews
