James Spader: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

1. Marcus - Slow Burn (2000)

While it€™s inclusion on this list is arguably cheating - this particular installment never made it to cinemas - the straight-to-video Slow Burn could represent the nadir of Spader€™s acting career. Though he€™s certainly been in some less-than-brilliant films, Spader is almost always one of the better parts of them - Slow Burn is one exception. Minnie Driver, who, as the trailer is quick to remind us has an Oscar nomination, stars as Trina, who has spent her life searching for lost diamonds in the Mexican desert. Two escaped convicts, Duster and Marcus - Josh Brolin and Spader - come across them then, as the character names suggest, things quickly go the route of Greed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v89gdKBSqz4 Eric von Stroheim€™s film about avarice and betrayal might be one of the best ever made; this homage might kindly be described as not quite one of the very worst. As Marcus, Spader adopts a grating New York accent and a bewildering array of mannerisms which, combined with the life-or-death stakes, pushes the film from the pulpy into the ridiculous. Three sun-burnt desperadoes does not The Treasure of the Sierra Madre make. But what do you think? Wish more of Spader€™s early career had made the best list or do you think newer Spader is better Spader? Are there any real turkeys missing from the worsts? Let us know in the comments.
