Jamie Lee Curtis: Her 10 Best Performances
5. Trading Places
This John Landis directed comedy saw Curtis getting to try her hand at comedy for the first time, a genre that would go on to serve her incredibly well. Playing opposite of big-hitters like Eddie Murphy and Dan Akroyd, Curtis knocks this performance out of the park.
In the film, she plays Ophelia, a prostitute who winds up befriending and taking care of Dan Akroyd's wealthy Winthrope when he finds himself reduced to nothing. She's the more stern foil to Akroyd's down-on-his-luck hijinks, but she also gets more than her fair share of laughs out of showing him that not everyone living on the streets is as bad as he thinks.
Again, Curtis finds herself in a role that could have come off as a cardboard cutout in the hands of a lesser actor, but she makes the role completely her own.
She plays Ophelia as a strong and capable woman, who isn't ashamed of who she is or what she does. The scene where she first brings Akroyd to her house and lays out the ground rules he'll have to follow while he stays with her is one of the film's best specifically because of Curtis' performance and impeccable comedic timing.
