Jason Segel: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 That Sucked

3. Jay - Sex Tape (2014)

Despite the fact that Segel and Diaz had managed to capture some very appealing chemistry in Bad Teachers, the decision to reteam them for this latest addition to the sex disaster comedy genre (alongside Road Trip, American Pie and their kind) proved to be their Righteous Kill. Unfortunately for such a likeable actor, Segel is hampered badly by poor direction - which seems oddly obsessed with his more sculpted backside than anything else - a terrible script (with far too few successful jokes) and Diaz's terrible performance opposite him. The film clearly thinks itself outrageous and titillating, when it is no more than excruciatingly embarrassing, and Segel seems to have attempted to make up for how terrible the script was by throwing all restraint out of the window. But when the only memorable part of the entire affair is the very cynical sales pitch he gives for the new iPad's hi-res camera, you have to concede that he didn't succeed at all.
