Has
Jennifer Garner inherited hubby Ben Affleck's old agent from his time on
Gigli and
Surviving Christmas? Garner's career post-
Juno, has found her playing love interest to Matthew McConaughey, Ricky Gervais, Ashton Kutcher and now the icing on top of the odd bunch of characters cake -
Russell Brand! If you really thought it couldn't get any worse than
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, then think again as
Variety say the former
Alias star is in talks for Brand's remake of Dudley Moore's 1981 classic rom-com
Arthur. Although to be fair, OWF's Simon Gallagher called the script
'not a bad offering' and despite it's familiarity (both in terms of the plot & Brand's persona), Baynham turned out an 'engaging' script on paper. Garner joins
Helen Mirren (I know, I don't get that one either),
Greta Gerwig and the newly announced
Nick Nolte. In a movie specifically written for him by
Borat, Bruno and former
Alan Partridge writer
Peter Baynham - Russell Brand plays the wealthy and merry playboy who will inherit a fortune if he marries an heiress his family is keen to see tie the not with. Garner will play said 'wealthy heiress' who is insecure about the arranged marriage. Oscar winner Helen Mirren will play a veteran nanny, replacing John Gielgud's valet character from the original. Gielgud won an Oscar for Best Supporting role in the Moore original, so maybe there is something for Mirren to work with here.
Greenberg up-and-comer Greta Gerwig plays the Liza Minelli role of the working class shoplifter who secures Arthur's heart. Nolte will play her father.
Jason Winer, a regular director on the show
Modern Family, begins lensing the film next month in New York.
